The boys learned how to write, read and quote literature. They also learned how to play a musical instrument and were trained for the military. Boys went to school at the age of 7 or went to the barracks if they lived in Sparta. Also the girls learned how to read, write and do simple arithmetic so they could manage the household.
The kids used to have reading classes, writing, math, singing and instrument.Ya think thats a lot!! Wow I wish school was like that for me...... Anyways there was also different philosophers and scientists. It is funny how it reminds me of Bill Nye the science guy. So where was I again! oh ya i was talking about the different scientists and philosophers.
Well some of the most commen ones were Thales which brought ideas of geometrey to us. There was also ummm let me think what was his name.. of course it was Plato. Pretty cool name. Wow thats is an easy name to remember and i forgot it!!! well he belived that the world was made up of ideas and forms. Socrates taught people to question and Pythagoras invented mordern methods used in math. Aristotle belived that the world was phisical and Erasistratus was a doctor and made important discoveries about the heart and the brain. There was also another guy thats name was Euclid and he was a cool mathamation and Aristarchus knew the earth moved around the sun.

Government
Many of the city states were democracies. Adult men were entitled to be a citizen. Only men were allowed to become citizens. The women were not considered to become citizens. Some city states were ruled by rich and powerful land owners that were supported by armies. All citizens voted to decide how that city was run, what taxes to pay or if they wanted to go to war. Poor workers were even paid a full days wages to attend the government assemblies. The different types of governments were monarchies, oligarchies and tyrannies. Also the greek government envolved slowly.
P.S Thats not fair that the women were treated so poorly...if i were there i would of put a stop to it.I f they didnt listen to me i would of made a rule that says Listen to Amal or we will give you a painful death.

Clothing
The ancient Greeks wore shirts called tunics. The men wore tunics that were made from wool and linen. The women wore long tunics called peplos. Slaves had white tunics while wealthy people have decorated tunics. The Greeks wore a robe called a chiton.
It was fastened around one shoulder or both shoulders and it was belted around the waist. Many people were barefoot. Shoes were leather sandals and boots. In the cold weather they would wear cloaks and shawls in cold weather and for travelling.
